Illegal gold mining ban in Peru

The government has shut down all the illegal gold mining site from April 19^th. 20% of the export gold is from illegal mining site, which is running by the local people of La Pampa.

The government has promised to give jobs for the miners, and there would be around 40,000 local people who were living on the gold mining in this area.

The local gold miners are using a very traditional way to procure the gold, which is Portable sluice box washing with Mercury Distiller. This kind of gold processing method is very low efficient, low concentration rate, and what worse, causes a lot of pollution. Tens of thousand tons mercury has pulled into this area, which done a lot pollution for the local environment, and at the same time, harm the local people a lot.

The government has to shut down these kind of illegal gold mining site, before the pollution get worse. Modern gold mining technology will be introduced, and investors will be invited in the future.

But now, still there are many local people are not going to leave their mining site and abandon their equipment, as they don’t think the government could give them a job to feed the family.
